NVIDIA Sets Gaming Record on 4K Display
January 4th, 2015

You've probably been content playing those video games you got for Christmas on the big screen at home but you might have a serious case of envy after seeing NVIDIA's latest world record. To celebrate the launch of their new GTX 980, the GeForce crew Game24 ventured to the Churchill Downs Racetrack in Kentucky to set the Guiness World Record for "Largest 4K Screen Used in a Video Game Competition".

Earlier this year, the racetrack that hosts the Kentucky Derby got a significant electronics upgrade a titanic 4K Panasonic display that rests over 80 feet off the ground. The display is 90 feet in height and 171 feet wide with 4,000 vertical lines and 2,160 horizontal lines of resolution. Just to put the size in context, that's the equivalent of 3 NBA basketball courts, 2,200 46" flat screen televisions, or nearly 233,000 Apple iPhone 6 Plus screens.

In order to accomplish the video game feat, the GeForce Game24 team had to run over a half mile of fiber from the control room to the display. After a couple of hiccups and technical issues, the team was playing Borderlands: The Presequel on the giant 4K screen.

If you want to install a similar screen in your backyard or underground cavern just look around for $12 million in change that might be hidden in your couch cushions. Congratulations to NVIDIA, GeForce, and the Game24 Team on the Guiness World Record and for helping push the boundaries of 4K display formats.
